A familiar face to the Stebonheath Park faithful in Lee Trundle starred as Ammanford beat Llanelli Town 3-0 in one of the Cymru South’s season openers.
Trundle – playing at the tender age of 44-years-old got two goals and an assist as he marked a successful return against Llanelli Town.
Tristan Jenkins, another former player of the Reds, was also on target as Gruff Harrison’s men opened the campaign with a comprehensive victory.
There was also two missed penalties in the match with Zac Brown missing the opportunity to pull back a consolation and Ammanford’s Liam Samuel to further increase the scoreline.
Off the pitch, a crowd of over 750 attended the match the game in the glorious South West Wales sunshine, highlighting a clear demand for Welsh football after a 500 day wait for league football.
Ammanford began the game on the front foot by controlling the pace of the game from the offset.
Their strong early start was buoyed by an early opening goal as Trundle rolled back the years. A pass to his feet saw him score with a clean drag cut past the defender to turn and finish for his opener.
In search of an immediate response, the returning James Loveridge squandered two opportunities. His best being a one-on-one with Craig Morris in which the Ammanford keeper came out on top.
Rather than an equaliser, Ammanford pulled further ahead and it was Trundle involved again. The forward found Jenkins at the back post and the former Llanelli academy product blasted home a volley.
A chance was presented to Andy Legg’s side to begin preparations for a fight back as they earned a penalty as Kai Whitmore made an error in the box.
Zac Brown though blasted his spot-kick onto the bar and the Reds remained scoreless in the first-half.
Another key chance presented itself to Llanelli but it was the same outcome as they failed to make it count. Lewis Reed in a solo battle with Morris put wide a shot from eight-yards out.
The game was becoming a quite physical affair at this stage with a number of yellow cards being brandished.
The referee then had the job of pointing to the spot for a second spot kick of the match, this time for a foul on Trundle.
Samuel, formerly of Llanelli, stepped forward but Exauce Dimonekene saved his second penalty in the space of a week.
Minutes from time, Ammanford were presented with another chance. Trundle this time stepped forward and blasted home his effort to earn a brace.
There would be no response from Llanelli as they were forced to settle for a heavy defeat in their first league match of the campaign.
