Conwy Borough scored late as they secured a 1-0 victory over Llangefni Town to start the Cymru North season on a positive footing.
Corrig McGonigle – the top-scorer of the Cymru North last season – scored a 92nd-minute penalty to give Mathew Jones a winning start to life in his first league campaign at Y Morfa.
It took the first 15 minutes for the game to settle and Llangefni had a few chances, Leon Buckland forced Rory Crowther into a fine save
They then had a penalty call waved away with Jake Jones falling down in the area. It was a moment of the match that gave the game a bit of fire after a slow start to the match.
James Saxon then tested the Conwy goalkeeper into a save as he whipped in a far-sided free-kick that Crowther had to be alert to.
More Llangefni pressure came and Dylan Summer-Jones almost broke the deadlock but he put his shot agonisingly wide of the target, ensuring a goalless first-half.
The second half began and it started with a good tempo with both teams adventuring in the final third but still no goal to show for.
After being on the back foot for the first half, Conwy had a corner midway through the second half which was taken by McGonigle but Cory Williams header flew over.
Then in a dramatic end to the match, Conwy went from almost losing to victors. Jake Jones then a had a real chance at the end but somehow it stayed out.
Conwy went up the other end and McGonigle went down in the box and Conwy was given a penalty. McGonigle stepped up and scored to seal the win.
