Penybont have added former Swansea midfielder Jack Evans to their squad for the 2021/22 Cymru Premier season.
The 23-year-old was been named on the bench for Penybont’s opening fixture against Bala.
In a short statement, the club said: “We are pleased to announce the signing of midfielder, Jack Evans, formerly of Newport County and Swansea City.
“Welcome to the club, Jack!”
The defensive midfielder joined Swansea’s academy at eight years old, and he continued his way up to the under-23 side. Evans captained the under-23 side and played with the likes of Joe Rodon, Daniel James, and Liam Cullen. Jack’s brother, Cameron, is also a footballer, and is currently on loan at Waterford from Swansea.
In 2018, Evans was diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma – a rare cancer that mainly affects adults in their early 20s and over 70s.
After missing a season to undergo chemotherapy, Evans made his senior debut for Swansea just a year after his diagnosis, in a 6-0 victory over Cambridge United in the EFL Cup.
Evans joined Mansfield on loan for the second half of the 2019-20 season but failed to make an appearance during his time there at the One Call Stadium.
In September 2020, Evans joined Cypriot side Pafos on loan, who at the time were managed by former Swansea U23 manager Cameron Toshack. Evans’ loan was cut short in December, following the departure of Toshack.
In January 2021, Evans joined Newport County on a free transfer. Evans was limited to just one appearance for the Exiles. Evans left Newport after his contract expired in June.
The Swansea-born midfielder is also a former Wales youth international, including 13 appearances for Wales U21.
Evans is Penybont’s fourth new signing ahead of the new season. Keane Watts has joined from Goytre United, and James Waite and Ryan Reynolds have both joined from Cardiff City.
Meanwhile, Josh Graham has opted to join Ardal Leagues outfit Goytre. Penybont had announced him in June, but the 27-year-old has opted to play his football at Plough Road.
He reunites with former STM Sports teammates Tom Burridge, Joey Evans, and Lamin Conteh.
