Connah’s Quay Nomads 1-1 Caernarfon Town: Nomads drift further away from top as shares are spoiled with the Canaries

Connah’s Quay Nomads and Caernarfon shared the points in a competitive affair at Deeside Stadium.

A Darren Thomas opening goal was cancelled out by a John Disney equaliser, as the Nomads drifted further away from title competitors The New Saints after their second successive draw.

Caernarfon managed to end a two-game losing streak with an impressive display against the reigning champions.

The first chance of the game falls to Connah’s Quay. Jamie Mullan found space on the right-hand side before finding Craig Curran with a cross. Curran’s header was too powerful and flew over the crossbar.

Rob Hughes ambitiously tried his luck from range, but Oliver Byrne saved the shot at ease.

Byron Harrison’s ability to bring the ball down under pressure massively helped the Nomads. John Disney found Harrison in the box before the striker controlled the ball and played Mullan through on goal, but Mullan’s shot was deflected and saved by Jakub Ojrzynski.

Hughes then came closer to opening the scoring. He sweetly struck a volley from the edge of the box, but it narrowly flew wide of the post.

Mullan was found in a crowded penalty area by a Kris Owens cross, but he failed to guide his header on target.

The deadlock was broken when Hughes found Thomas in the area with a sublime pass with the outside of his boot, and Thomas calmly controlled the ball in the penalty area before cutting inside and firing past Byrne with his right foot.

Curran went down inside the box claiming to have been fouled, but the referee blew his whistle and carded the attacker.

Almost a carbon copy of his goal, Thomas was found in the box yet again. After beating two defenders he struck the ball with his left foot and failed to hit the target.

Connah’s Quay grew into the game towards the end of the half. Harrison had a chance which was comfortably cleared off the line by Gruff John.

George Horan then thumped a header wide as he was found following a powerful run into the box.

The Nomads continued their momentum into the second half. Ryan Harrington’s left-footed effort from range was just too high.

Harrington was denied an equaliser moments later as Dion Donohue cleared his effort off the line.

Disney brought the game level as his ball into the box was deflected by Donohue before lofting over Ojrzynski.

Gosset came close to reclaiming the Cofi lead as his left-footed effort rattled the underside of the crossbar before the Nomads cleared their lines.

Mullan pounced on a heavy touch from the Caernarfon defence before firing wide from behind the penalty spot.

Harrison found himself on the end of chances throughout. Within minutes of each other, he volleyed over and headed wide of the target.

Captain Horan had the last opportunity of the game. His headed effort flew wide of the Caernarfon goal.
