Taffs Well 7-1 Port Talbot Town: Seventh heaven for Wellmen against sorry Steelmen

 

David Lyon scored four as rampant Taffs Well thrashed Port Talbot 7-1 in the JD Cymru South.

A 27 minute hat trick from David Lyons put the game out of reach. 1 from Jack Fox, Jaen Maertins and Jamie Owen from the penalty spot completed a dominating performance. Jake Barrow got a consolidation goal at the end for the away side and they’re first league goal of the season.


The home sides first chance came in the second minute, it was a good cross from the left hand side, It reached Maertins in the box but his shot was easily saved by the keeper.


Another chance then fell to the home side, a short corner was neatly worked and it fell to Jack Fox on the edge but his shot flew over the bar.


The opening goal came on the 12th minute, a good ball was delivered from the right hand side, Marcus Jones was found in the middle, his header was on target but it was spilled by Henri Phillips in the goal and it fell to David Lyons who tapped it in and gave the home side the lead.


Just after the goal was conceded the away side had to make a substitution with Josh Floyd going off injured and was replaced by David Llewellyn.


It was all Taffs Well now in the game and another chance came from the right, very good cross was delivered, Jordan Barrow headed it clear but it fell to David Lyons but his shot went over the bar.


The home side then doubled they’re advantage on the 21st minute, really good play on the right. David Lyons causing more problems for the home side, he cut in and blasted in to the right of the keeper and the former Taffs Well goalkeeper stood no chance and the home side were dominating.


8 minutes later, David Lyons secured his hat trick and gave his side a well deserved 3-0 lead. The goal came from a short free kick gone wrong from the away side. Port Talbot lost the ball and a perfectly timed counter attack from the home side bought David Lyons into play once again. He cut in yet again and scored a wonder goal and went straight past the keeper and into the net.


7 minutes before half time it got worse for the away side, a good cross came from the right hand side and Jan Maertins was in plenty of room in the box and his header went into the net and gave the hosts a 4-0 lead going into half time.


The second half started just as the first half ended with the home side dominating the ball and it was no surprise the first chance fell the hosts. It came from a good by David Lyons and it fell to Marcus Jones in the middle of the box and it was tipped over by the substitution goalkeeper James Donnelly.


Lewis Robinson then picked up the ball for the away side who looked The Steelmens best player, he took on a few defenders but couldn’t quite get the ball out of his feet and was tackled but the youngster caused a threat when he got the ball.


On the 66th minute, the home side won themselves a penalty and it was neatly slotted away by former Llanelli player, Jamie Owen and that gave the home side a 5-0 lead and at this point it was just a question of how much the home side would win by.


The Wellman then picked up the ball and played it very neatly in the middle of the park. It then fell to Marcus Jones who got his shot away but again was nicely saved by Donnelly in the net.


A couple of minutes later the home side scored they’re sixth, Jack Fox picked up the ball for the home side just outside the box, he neatly slotted into the left hand side of the post and gave the home side another goal and at this point the score could be anything.


8 minutes from the end, David Lyons picked up his fourth goal and his team’s final one of the night. A good cross ball was neatly headed over the keepers head and looped and a man of the match performance from the ex TNS winger.


Port Talbot picked up a consolation right at the end. A corner was delivered and the home side didn’t manage to clear it. It was bouncing around and it deflected off Jake Barrow and into the net and Port Talbot managed to score they’re first league goal of the season.


A couple of minutes later the referee blew his whistle and it ended 7-1 to the home side with a master class from David Lyons.
