Taffs Well won 3-0 against Undy Athletic with an explosive second-half performance at Gentlemans Construction Stadium.

Taffs Well opened the scoring early in the second half as Riccardo Mackenzie fired a header from close range.

Luke Davidson came on as a substitute and fired home a 30-yard screamer to chip the Undy Athletic keeper to double the host’s lead.

To cap off the scoring the ever-reliable David Lyon fired his strike in from close range, to give the home side their fourth win of the season as they climb to 8th place.

The first opportunity of the game went to the home side as David Lyon struck his effort over the bar from a Jan Maertins delivery.

David Lyon was causing danger on the right side as his dangerous runs caused the Undy defence to be aware of his presence.

A flick back heel passed from David Lyon in the direction of Jan Maertins that was cleared away from danger.

Huw Corne hit a ball in the direction as Sam Pashen could not find space to get a shot off as he was surrounded by Undy defenders.

Daniel Tozer caused the Wellmen fans’ mouths to drop as he fired a half volley shot going just over the bar, for the first opportunity for the away side.

Jordan Rathbone was dangerous at fullback as he hit a ball in the direction of Thomas Wright as he could not get a full connection of the ball.

The captain, Marcus Jones, had an effort of his own as he fired an effort from inside the box aimed towards the bottom right corner as it was collected by James Smallcombe.

One of the game’s biggest talking points was when Thomas Wright clipped the ankles of David Lyon.

Frustration on the touchline and the pitch as Sam Pashen grabbed a yellow for arguing with the referee.

Riccardo Mackenzie fires a ball long to the back post where David Lyon was waiting to be found as the winger could not connect a header.

Moments later Gyles Thompson received a yellow card for kicking the ball away for a throw-in from an interception with too much force, resulting in a yellow card.

The clearance hit a spectator who was right next to the defender with the Undy Athletic touchline in shock with the decision.

The last chance of the first half went to the away side as James Gidney fired a half volley effort past the post from a Daniel Jarman delivery.

The first half was dominated by Taffs Well until the latter stages as the away side found gaps in the Taffs Well defence.

Taffs Well kicked off the second like they did the first with Scott Hillman as he fired a header from a delivery to the back post with no one around him.

Gareth Cullimore could have changed Undy’s luck as he was one on one with Tomos Bodger as fired his effort past the post to nearly give the away side the advantage.

Moments later, Christopher Parry was booked for bringing down Marcus Jones who was 30 yards from goal.

Jones stepped up for the free-kick as his shot was saved but a goal-mouth scramble resulting in a header from Riccardo Mackenzie who gave the home side the lead from close range.

Following his goal, Riccardo Mackenzie was subbed off as he was injured following his header as he was replaced by Harry Gidman.

Taffs Well’s top scorer David Lyon caused danger in the second half as he cut around the Undy defence as he fired an effort just outside the box, going well wide.

After replacing Joseph Shepard, Luke Davidson was vital down the left side but a left-footed chip from 30 yards out gave the home side a two-nil lead.

The strike from Luke Davidson was the first of the season for the 22-year-old.

Daniel Tozer received a booking after fouling Pashen to prevent a Taffs Well counterattack.

Not too long after David Lyon grabbed his sixth in the league as he flicked up the pass he got from the left and slotted a volley into an empty net.

The last big opportunity went to Taffs Well when Jan Maertins fired his powerful effort into the side netting from outside the box.
