Andy Morrison: Connah’s Quay Nomads manager steps down after six years in charge

Andy Morrison has this evening stepped down from his role as manager of Cymru Premier champions Connah’s Quay Nomads.
A statement on the club website read: “Connah’s Quay Nomads can today confirm that we have reluctantly accepted the resignation of Andy Morrison.
“Morrison arrived at Deeside Stadium back in November 2015 with The Nomads bottom of the formerly-known Welsh Premier League. Morrison led The Nomads to our first ever top-six finish that season and our historic first ever European campaign with our Play Off victory over Airbus in front of a record Deeside Stadium crowd.
“This led to our 1-0 aggregate victory over Norwegian side, Stabæk in the UEFA Europa League – the first time that a Welsh side had kept clean sheets across two legs in European competition.”
During his six years in charge, the Nomads achieved six successive European qualifications, won back-to-back Cymru Premier titles, as well as claiming the JD Welsh Cup in the 2017-18 campaign and the Nathaniel MG Cup two years later.
Morrison, who represented the likes of Manchester City, Plymouth Argyle and Huddersfield Town in a 14-year playing career, also masterminded the run to the final of the then IRN-BRU Cup in the 2018-19 season, where they fell agonisingly short, losing 3-1 to Ross County in his birthplace of Inverness.
Another stand-out moment was undoubtedly the famous 2-0 aggregate win over Kilmarnock in the first qualifying round for the 2019-20 UEFA Europa League.
The first leg had finished goalless at the Deeside Stadium, but Ryan Wignall’s header and a penalty from Callum Morris completed one of the biggest European upsets in recent memory over a Killie side who, just two months earlier, had clinched a third place finish in the 2018-19 Scottish Premiership.
“Everyone at Connah’s Quay Nomads would like to thank Andy for his time and efforts at the club over the past six years which have been some of the greatest moments in the club’s history,” the statement continued.
“An official announcement on Andy’s successor will be made in due course.”
after watching the nomads for several years on s4c,i have been impressed with andys passion.the swearing was a bit loud but it did seem to get a response from the team.i started going to the nomads ground to watch them play this season.not at there best so far,i have really enjoyed the games.i dont think i would have started watching them if it wasnt for andys passion.he understands the game.please come back andy.i cannot see the nomads doing as well from now on.hope i am wrong.
