Connah’s Quay Nomads have acted quickly to Andy Morrison’s departure by naming first-team coach Craig Harrison as his replacement.
The job has been given to former TNS boss, Craig Harrison. Harrison was already involved with the Nomads, joining as first-team coach in October 2018 following a spell in charge of Bangor City. During his time working alongside Morrison, Connah’s Quay enjoyed their most successful period in their history, winning the Cymru Premier twice, the Nathaniel MG Cup and the then IRN-BRU Cup (Scottish League Cup) as well as famously knocking Kilmarnock out of the Europa League.
Commenting on his appointment, he said: “I’m very excited to take on this new challenge and I’m looking forward to working in a different capacity at the club alongside some very good people, both on and off the pitch.”
As manager of The New Saints, Harrison oversaw a period of dominance. Joining in 2011, he went on to win the Cymru Premier in all of the six seasons he was in charge as well as four Welsh Cups and four League Cups.
In 2016, whilst in charge of The New Saints, Harrison’s side also broke the world record for the longest winning streak in top-flight football, beating Ajax’s 44-year record after winning 27 games in succession. Harrison then left for English National League club, Hartlepool.
It’s not been the ideal start for the Nomads, who have only one won two of their opening six fixtures, which sees them sat in sixth place, already eight points off the top. Harrison will have his work cut out to make up the difference if he wants to replicate the success of the last two seasons.
