Barry Town United 4-0 Swansea University: Linnets comfortably through to next round

Comfortable win in the end as Barry put four past Swansea Uni in Welsh Women’s Cup. A fast start and two quick fire second half goals secure Barry’s place in the next round.

Taite Trivett opening the scoring in the first minute as Barry stared quick. Mackenzie Olden made it two after 64 minutes and Trivett soon got her second. Mannon Pearce added a fourth after 71 minutes.

Barry made a quick start and got an early goal. Swansea Uni struggled in the opening exchanges but were able to regroup and contain. As the half wore on they started to look like they could get a goal on the break. Barry had most of the ball and created the better chances but were unable to get a second before the break. Swansea Uni looked were very much in the game at 1-0 but two goals with a minute ended the game as a contest. Barry were able to add a fourth and in the end it was a comfortable win for them.

The Linnets can look forward to the next round where they could face Cardiff City, Swansea City amongst others.


Barry started in pulsating fashion and took the lead in the opening minute. Grace O’Reilly with the ball playing it to Mackenzie Olden in the centre. Olden moved the ball out to the left finding the run of Taite Trivett. Trivett hit a low powerful shot that went into the far corner to give her side the lead.

Swansea Uni were rocked by the early goal and Barry looked to press their advantage. Olden went close with a header from a Lauren Harris corner, heading just wide from close range at the far post.

Trivett made a good run down the wing and put a ball towards O’Reilly but she couldn’t get on to the pass.

Swansea Uni started to settle into the game and Becky Reed played a great ball into the box finding Lucy Morris. Morris was able to shot but it went straight to Erin Brennan in the Barry Goal.

Trivett had chances for a second first after Harris found her she shot straight at Celyn Davies. Just after she hit a shot just wide of the goal.

Swansea had a good chance to level the score when Lucy Morris found Emily Freeman out wide. Freeman sent in a cross to the back post which was met by Isabel King but Brennan was able to save.

Lauren Harris hit the woodwork with a 30 yard free kick which was dipping over Davies.

Swansea started brightly in the second half and won an early free kick. Taken short to tee up Reed who hit a powerful shot which forced a save from Brennan. Freeman went for the lose ball but was offside.

Freeman put in a good deep cross towards the back post which was met by King. The ball looked to be going in but Holly Jenkins made a vital clearance on the line.

The game was won in a two minute blitz as Barry hit two goals. Taite Trivett spun away from her marker and played a fine pass into the box for Mackenzie Olden. Olden fired a shot into the goal for 2-0.

Before the dust settled on the second goal it was three. Barry with a good piece of passing play found Trivett free in the box and she fired into the net.

Barry counited to move the ball around well and were able to add a fourth. With some slick passing play Trivett was able to find Mannon Pearce with hit a low shot in.

Player of the Match: Taite Trivett

With two goals and two assists Trivett was a nightmare for the Swansea Uni defence. Always looking to create attacks for her team, she took her goals well and showed good vision to set up two.
