Pontypridd Town rocked as Luke Gullick ruptures ACL
Pontypridd Town’s bid for promotion has taken a blow after Luke Gullick ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament.
The 35-year-old has scored 12 goals in 11 appearances this season, already beating his 2019/20 tally in ten fewer games.
Gullick though will be unable to add to that after picking up one of the worst injuries that a footballer can get.
Posting on social media, he said: “I am absolutely gutted to miss the rest of the season as I have ruptured my ACL.
“I have come back from this injury once before so I know I can do it again.
“I will now be a Pontypridd Town fan and support the lads pushing for promotion.
“Unfortunately, my 139 goals for the club will have to wait for now.”
The former Chippenham forward has been at Pontypridd for the last seven years and has featured in many big games, as well as guiding them to two promotions from Welsh football’s fourth tier.
He was part of the side which played a glamour friendly with Valencia and Deportivo la Coruna, before facing against a talkSport XI that included Dietmar Hamann and Danny Gabbidon.
His goals have him ranked as the fourth-highest goal scorer this season with Ammanford’s Tristan Jenkins leading the way on 16.
Pontypridd will now have to hope that Sam Johnson and Gavin Beddard, who have both hit double figures this season, can step up even more in his absence.
At the halfway point of the season, the Dragons are a point behind league leaders, Llantwit Major.
After a two-week break due to the international period and the Nathaniel MG Cup, Pontypridd resume their campaign when they welcome Afan Lido to the USW Sport Park on Friday.
