Wayne Jones stands down as manager of struggling Haverfordwest County
Wayne Jones has stood down from his role as manager of Haverfordwest County.
The Bluebirds are second from bottom in the Cymru Premier after suffering a 4-1 defeat to Flint Town United yesterday.
A search is underway to find an interim manager for their league fixture against Bala Town next week, whilst they will also look for a long-term successor.
He is the third managerial casualty of the season after both the Cefn Druids and Connah’s Quay changed their managers.
“He has a long and successful affiliation with the club as a player, coach, and first-team manager, and will go down as one of Haverfordwest County’s finest,” chairman Rob Edwards said on the official club website.
“I feel very privileged to have been able to work with Wayne and have never come across such a genuine, dedicated, and hard-working person.”
Jones was appointed as manager back in September 2018 and oversaw two top-three finishes in the Cymru South.
Haverfordwest – who recorded a second-place finish – were promoted in 2020 after the curtailment of the season, in which champions Swansea University did not possess the Tier One Licence.
In their first season back in the Welsh top flight, the West Wales club secured a ninth-place finish, their highest since 20019.
In a statement released on social media, Jones released a statement explaining the rationale to leave the club after his second spell: “Having spoken to club chairman Rob Edwards in length, I have been honest and truthful in my decision, which is something I hope will benefit the club going forward.
“I have a great 19-year association with the club and leave with very fond and happy memories.”
