Five men making a name for themselves in the Ardal North East

We are approaching the midway point in the Ardal North East with Chirk AAA sitting top of the table with 40 points as we head into the festive period.

The newly formed Ardal Leagues have brought plenty of excitement with 668 goals alone in the Ardal North East to date with Chirk, Cefn Albion, and Llanfair United currently leading the promotion charge.

We have picked five players who have been instrumental for their Clubs during the first half of the season.

Joshua Astley – Llanfair United

Astley leads the goalscoring charts in the North East with a whopping 26 goals scored in the 14 games he’s featured in for the Mount Field outfit. The 22-year-old has also netted five goals in the JD Welsh Cup and Trophy and is no doubt catching the attention of managers in the JD Cymru North.

A quick centre forward, he has plenty of pace and is a handful for defenders. He’s a crucial player for Llanfair who at this rate will hit the 40 goal mark by the end of the season.

Ryan Knott – Welshpool Town

20-year-old Knott is making a name for himself down at Maesydre with twenty goals in fourteen games for Welshpool. Welshpool are mid-table but have won six out of their last eight league fixtures with Knott’s goals essential scoring a hattrick versus Kerry, a brace v Corwen and four v Penparcau recently. It will be interesting to see if Ryan can continue his goalscoring run.

Max McLaughlin of Llanfair United

Max McLaughlin – Llanfair United

Another one of Llanfair’s main men, Max is a strong striker who has built an excellent partnership alongside Joshua Astley. Not only has McLaughlin been chipping in with 11 goals for the Club but also has created the most goals in the league thus far with 10 assists too. Aged 25, he has shown plenty of potential that he could play at a higher level and is an important member of the Llanfair United squad.

Scott Evans – Corwen

Midfielder Evans is having an excellent season for Guy Handscombe’s men who are 6th in the table after seventeen matches. The 29-year-old has bagged himself nine goals alongside seven assists which has helped teammates Kevin Day and Owen Cordiner to climb up the goalscoring charts. Always a player that Corwen can rely on as he’s played almost every minute for the Club this season in the Ardal North East, his presence will be imperative over the next couple of months.

Alex Williams – Cefn Albion

Albion are flying up the North East table in recent weeks losing only once in the last seven outings. Alex has fifteen league goals to his name as well as another five in Cup competitions and has had an eye for goal with 21 goals scored in the 2019/20.

Williams has plenty of experience at this level with three years already until his belt for Cefn and they will no doubt push Chirk and Llanfair all the way in the race for promotion with Alex in their side.
