Cardiff Met made it four victories in all competitions against Barry this season, with a 2-0 victory at Cyncoed Campus.
Second-half goals from Harry Owen and Adam Roscrow were enough to see Met home, but Barry did not offer much in this contest.
The result moves the Archers onto 23 points, four behind sixth-place Caernarfon. Barry stay on 19 points, and only two behind eleventh placed Aberystwyth.
The first half started promisingly for the Archers. Lewis Rees won the ball in the middle of the field and his shot just dipped over Mike Lewis’ goal.
The game then went into a lull for the next twenty minutes, then Tom Price robbed Theo Wharton of the ball and had an effort from range, but again, Lewis was not tested in the Barry net.
The best chance of the half happened from a Barry mistake. Lewis’ poor clearance was pounced upon by Price, who had an opportunity to shoot with Lewis out of his goal, but the Met midfielder opted to hold the ball and play it through to Rees, but Lewis was back in his net and able to make an easy save.
Barry’s first effort on goal came almost a quarter of an hour into the second half. Evan Press had a shot from range that narrowly sailed over the top corner. Three minutes later, substitute Rhys Kavanagh tricked and jinxed his way into the box, managed to make space for a shot, but he couldn’t keep it down.
Met took the lead in the 68th minute. Roscrow forced his way into the box, and his pass somehow managed to go through the legs of Liam Cooper, leaving Owen with an easy sweeping finish into the bottom corner.
Chances were few and far between after the goal but Met doubled their lead in the 89th minute. From a Barry corner, Met broke, and the ball fell to Roscrow on the halfway line, who then proceeded to outrun and outmuscle Kavanagh and hit his shot across goal, leaving Lewis with no chance of getting to it.
Met will now travel to high-flying Flint on Saturday, while Barry face Connah’s Quay Nomads away from home on the same day.
Player of the Match: Adam Roscrow
Roscrow was at the heart of everything tonight. His movement off the ball to drag defenders away from their positions was excellent, as was his work to create the goal for Owen. His goal a minute from time was thoroughly deserved.
