Wales ‘C’ to do battle with England at Caernarfon in March

Wales C will meet England C for the third time as the two clash at Caernarfon Town’s The Oval on March 30.

Caernarfon were due to hold the previously scheduled fixture but it was postponed during the early period of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Other opponents had been looked at and assessed but it’s Paul Fairclough’s Three Lions that Wales will do battle with once more.

Wales C manager Mark Jones said: “After missing out on this occasion in 2020 due to the pandemic, we’re more excited than ever to be welcoming England C to The Oval.

“It will be a fantastic occasion in what will be a momentous week for Welsh football.”

England C Manager, Paul Fairclough, said: “We are really pleased to confirm that we’ve accepted an invitation to play this fixture against Wales C.

“The last two encounters between the two sides have provided plenty of entertainment and a  platform for the players to progress their careers, so we’re looking forward to what should be an  exciting game for all involved.”

The most recent fixture was a 2-2 draw at Salford City in which Kayne McLaggon and Adam Roscrow scored in after twice falling behind.

Before that, Mark Jones’ side suffered a 3-2 defeat at Jenner Park Stadium as future Doncaster Rovers striker Fejiri Okenabirhie scored a hat-trick, which was enough to win after Mark Jones and Chris Venables’ goals.

The game has been a platform for scouts of Football League clubs to watch over the players and later give them an opportunity in professional football.

After captaining the side in Barry in March 2018, New Saints defender Connell Rawlinson was signed by Port Vale, whilst Okenabirhie moved to Shrewsbury Town.

A year later after scoring the equalising goal, Roscrow left Cardiff Metropolitan for League One outfit AFC Wimbledon.

Back in March 2020, current Wales international Sorba Thomas was named in the England team that would have faced Wales, now he has two senior caps to his name for Rob Page’s side.

Despite currently plying their trade in the Cymru Premier, the likes of David Edwards and Jazz Richards are not expected to feature and instead, this opportunity will be afforded to those who may not have the chance to pull the red of Wales on.
