Haverfordwest sign Cardiff City youngster to top off transfer business

Haverfordwest signed Cardiff City midfielder Caleb Hughes on a loan deal to top off a busy month of transfer business in the January window.

The 18-year-old, signed on deadline day, became the sixth player to arrive at the Bridge Meadow as the West Wales club equip themselves to try and avoid the drop.

Hughes recently signed a professional deal back in October 2021 and has played for both the under-18’s and under-23’s sides of Cardiff City.

He is also a Wales under-19 international and played in all three of their recent qualifying matches in October.

He joins up with former Bluebirds players such as Danny Williams and Jazz Richards who both turned out for the capital-based side.

A few days prior to Hughes’ arrival, they announced the double signing of goalkeeper Zac Jones and defender Alex Worley.

Jones joins until the end of the season and will compete with both Wojciech Gajda and Lee Idzi for a place in between the sticks.

The 21-year-old was most recently playing in the top-flight of New Zealand football, playing for Miramar Rangers, where he won the first domestic title.

They also strengthened in defence and recruited centre-back Alex Worley who joined from Walsall’s academy team.

The 18-year-old was captain of the Saddlers’ under-18 team and played a few days ago in their EFL Youth Alliance match.

In the earlier part of the window, Haverfordwest signed striker Jordan Davies on loan from Connah’s Quay until the end of the season.

They also saw the return of Corey Shephard after a brief spell with Town as well as the signing of Ryan George, who was formerly of Newport’s academy.
