Bangor 1876 land major coup as Cymru North Golden Boot winner joins

CPD Bangor 1876 have put the North Wales Coast League on alert by signing Conwy Borough‘s top goal scorer Corrig McGonigle.

The 24-year-old last played for the Tangerines in late January but was absent in their 4-0 loss to Llandudno almost a fortnight ago.

McGonigle had scored eight goals in 28 appearances for Mathew Jones men in the league but has sought a new playing opportunity for the remainder of the current campaign.

“His record is immense, both when it comes to scoring goals and creating them,” said Michael Johnston.

He will be a great addition to our squad and hopefully improve on his excellent record.”

“Our new manager was eager to recruit the talented striker, mentioning that “as soon as we heard he was available, Mel Jones was straight onto it”.

He was the Golden Boot winner in the inaugural season of the Cymru North, netting 24 times in 23 appearances for Conwy in the 2019/20 campaign.

The prolific front-man will now work under the stewardship of Michael Johnston and Mel Jones, who succeeded Dylan Williams earlier this month.

The pair are due to take charge of their first game on Friday evening when they welcome Llanrug United to Treborth.

Bangor currently second in the West Division of the North Wales Coast trail Bodedern Athletic by a whole ten points after the Anglesey-based side won all 18 of their opening league matches with ten games remaining.
