Caernarfon Town 0-4 Newtown: Robins in resounding win at Cofi home woes continue
Newtown bounced back to winning ways with a thumping 4-0 win over Caernarfon Town at The Oval.
The Robins had not won a game in six but that did not hinder them in the slightest as they comfortably took all three points.
Goals from Nick Rushton, Aaron Williams, Craig Williams and former Caernarfon striker Jamie Breese saw Chris Hughes’ side storm past a hapless Caernarfon side who are without a home win since mid-September.
Neither team started the game on the front foot. Newtown looked to counter through the pace of Zeli Ismail and Fumpa Mwandwe and were happy to let Caernarfon have the fair share of possession. The deadlock was broken in the 34th minute, a corner from former Wolverhampton Wanderers man Ismail nearly found it’s way into the net. The follow-up was teed up to Rushton and his ferocious half-volley left Jakub Orzynski helpless in goal.
Newtown looked to add to their tally but could not get the second before the break. However 7 minutes after the break, they were 3-0 up. Three minutes into the half, Craig Williams was on hand to pounce. Fumpa Mwandwe used his blistering pace to get to the byline. His cross was missed by Aaron Williams however veteran Craig Williams was on hand to slot into the net for the second. The home side’s defence were nowhere to be seen as Newtown players were lining up to score.
Four minutes later, Williams was at it again. Good work in midfield put Aaron Williams through on goal. He had plenty of time to pick his spot with a low strike which left Orzynski stranded. Newtown were well worth their lead and looked to add a fourth. Huw Griffiths attempted to change things as he brought on Rob Hughes and Joe Faux but Dave Jones remained untested in the Newtown goal.
In added-time substitute, Jamie Breese put the icing on the cake. The hosts defence again were opened up and the former Caernarfon striker was on hand to fire past Orzynski and crown a fantastic away performance for The Robins. A third win in a row at The Oval for Newtown which takes them up to third place in a congested top six.
