Llantwit Major 1-1 Ammanford – Late show as Major rescue a point

Kyran Gardner scored a dramatic late equaliser as Llantwit drew with Ammanford in the Cymru South. Gardner struck deep into added time to keep Llantwit’s push for the title going.

Matthew Fisher gave the visitors an early lead when he scored after four minutes. Llantwit who enjoyed plenty of the ball failed to really threat Craig Morris goal in the first half. With time ticking away Llantwit kept pushing and after Kinsella hit the post may have thought that the game was gone. But they kept pushing and were rewarded with a late goal from Gardner.

Llantwit remain top of the Cymru South, with a lead of two points from Pontypridd Town. Llantwit do have a game in hand over Pontypridd. Ammanford remain in 13th place two points behind 12th place Trefelin.


In the high wind Kris Evans mis-kicked as he tried to clear and allow Lee Trundle to play a subline pass to Matthew Fisher in space inside the Llantwit box. Fisher swept the ball low across goal into the bottom corner to Ammanford an early lead.

Ammanford were almost two up as Tristan Jenkins made a good run into the box. Jenkins found Matthew Fisher who took a shot but it was blocked.

The game wasn’t a pretty affair with heavy challenges and neither team able to gain full control. Ammanford were using their physically to throw off Llantwit and were dangerous on the break.

Llantwit struggled to get their passing game going at times but when they got it right they found Thomas Walters in the box. Walters let fire with a shot but Craig Morris made a good save with his leg.

Ammanford gave away many free kicks but Llantwit were unable to capitalise as Ammanford’s defence stood firm.

Nathan Jones went for goal from a free kick and almost hit the target as his effort went just wide.

Llantwit went looking for a leveller in the second half and Cullen Kinsella made a driving run though the middle. He played the ball out left to Conner Goldsworthy his ball into Walters was a little in front of the forward.

Trundle had the ball in the net with a stunning strike from the edge of the box, but the flag was up and the goal was ruled out.

As the game went into the final ten minutes Llantwit kept pushing and Ammanford tried to run down the time and see out the game.

Jamie Miller set up Kinsella in the box and the Llantwit captain fired at goal. The ball cannon off the post from close range.

There was late drama as Shane Parry got a second yellow for a late tackle in the 89th minute.

The drama continued into added time as Llantwit pumped the ball into the box. Kris Evans raised above the defenders to head across goal where Kyran Gardner was to put the ball home and save a point.
