Llantwit Major 2-1 Cambrian & Clydach Vale – Major come from behind to win

Llantwit Major kept their title challenge on course after coming from behind to beat Cambrian & Clydach Vale.

Ceri Morgan gave Cambrian the lead after 55 minutes in a scrappy game. Llantwit hit back two two quickfire goals. Thomas Walters levelled from the spot before three minutes later Anthony Rawlings put the hosts ahead.

Llantwit restore their five point lead at the top of the JD Cymru South and extended their unbeaten run to 11 games. Cambrian are in fifth two points behind third and fourth-placed Briton Ferry and Goytre United.

The early moments of the game went back as fourth but in a scrappy fashion as neither side could take control. Conner Davies fired an early shot over the bar from Cambrian while Dafydd Owen hit one high for Llantwit.

As the game settled Llantwit looked for the opening goal. Nathan Jones’ cross finding the head of Ben Cripps who put the ball wide.

The first half saw many fouls and free kicks and Thomas Walters almost opened the scoring from one. Walters fired at goal from 30 yards and his curling effort slammed off the post.

Jarrad Wright tried his luck from a free-kick but he couldn’t get height on the ball and his effort hit the wall.

Cambrian made a good start to the second half and were awarded a free kick just inside the Llantwit half. Cam Strinati sent the ball into the box and after pinging about it fell to Ceri Morgan who fired low into the goal.

Llantwit Manager Karl Lewis reacted quickly making two changes after falling behind. Josh Jones and Adam Jenkins coming on. Thomas Walters tried a long-range lob that almost dipped under the crossbar.

The game was coming to live and Cambrian could have been two up. Conner Davies stealing the ball from Kris Evans and making a run into the box. Davies found Cameron Keetch in the centre of the box and his low shot was saved by the outstretched leg of Jack Lansdown.

Llantwit quickly went on the break send Josh Jones away down the right. Jones made his way into the box and was brought down for a penalty. Thomas Walters sent the spot kick to the left and although Cameron Clarke was able to get a hand on it there was enough power for the ball to hit the net.

Soon Llantwit were ahead thanks to Anthony Rawlings. From a free kick sent into the box Cambrian couldn’t clear their lines and the ball fell to Rawlings who fired in from close range.

Josh Jones set up Rawlings inside the box and his shot got deflected but still needed Clarke to save.

Cambrian tried to get back into the game with Ceri Morgan chipping the ball into the box. Jordan Smith got his head on it but headed over.

Llantwit saw out the final few minutes to claim their tenth win from eleven games.
