Ex-Connah’s Quay boss appointed manager of Sri Lanka national team

Andy Morrison has made his next step in management after being appointed as the national team manager of Sri Lanka.

Morrison was on the lookout for his next job after leaving the Connah’s Quay Nomads in October following six years in charge.

His contract duration is unknown however a task of uplifting, building, and modernising the team within three years has been spoken about.

Morrison will be assisted by Keith Stevens, who was a one-club man at Millwall, playing for the Lions from 1980 to 1999.

“Keith and I fly out on Saturday to begin this new chapter in our lives.”

Sri Lanka are ranked 205th in the FIFA world rankings and are below Gibraltar, Pakistan, and the Cayman Islands. 

The Golden Army compete in the Asian Football Confederation and finished fourth in their qualifying group, finishing below Turkmenistan, Lebanon, and South Korea. 

Sri Lanka have been placed in a group with Uzbekistan, Thailand, and the Maldives to qualify for the 2023 AFC Asian Cup.

His first match in charge is due to be against Uzbekistan on June 8, before a match against Thailand on June 11 and then finishing off against the Maldives on June 14, where all fixtures will be held at the Markaziy Stadium in Qarshi, Uzbekistan.
