Briton Ferry raid Llantwit Major for two of their title winners

Briton Ferry Llansawel have put the Cymru South on alert by signing two members of Llantwit Major’s title winning squad.

Ferry achieved the Tier One Licence but their third placed finish was not enough to secure Cymru Premier football for the first time since 1997.

Now they are assembling a squad capable of challenging for the title in what will be a hotly contested league next year.

The league’s top scorer Thomas Walters and experienced midfielder Cullen Kinsella have been announced as double signings by the Reds.

The pair follow Karl Lewis to Old Road after the 32-year-old took up a coaching role, working under Andy Hill.

Walters joined the Vale of Glamorgan side after recovering from a lengthy injury sustained whilst playing for Goytre United.

The 25-year-old scored 27 goals in 32 appearances across all competitions and finished as the South’s top scorer with 24 goals in 29 games.

In a parting statement, Major said: “Not many players become a club legend in just one season, but that’s what this man has managed.

“Top scorer, title winner, stadium renamed after girlfriend’s dog, and all-round great bloke.”

Midfielder Kinsella will be joining Walters at the Neath Port Talbot side as they begin their plans for next season.

Kinsella, who like Walters was at Goytre United, was a prominent member in Major’s success.

The 27-year-old missed just three matches and scored ten goals, as well as one assist, including a strike to win the league against Undy Athletic.

At Goytre in the 2019/20 season, he featured seven times before the season was curtailed.

He brings title-winning and top-flight experience to the Ferry squad after winning the Welsh League title with Penybont.

Kinsella was part of the Penybont side that went the entire league season unbeaten.

He then made 15 appearances for Rhys Griffiths’ side in the Welsh top flight but was limited to coming off of the subs bench ten times.
