Llantwit Major have announced that Stevie McCarthy-Campbell will take charge of their first team, becoming their new manager.
McCarthy-Campbell, who was most recently at South Wales Alliance League outfit Ely Rangers, succeeds Karl Lewis, who left to become a coach at Briton Ferry Llansawel.
The UEFA A Licence holder recently guided Rangers to promotion, finishing third in the fifth tier of Welsh football after they were relegated in 2020.
As well as Rangers, McCarthy-Campbell held roles at Barry Town United as their head of Youth Phase, as well as managing their youth team and also coached Bristol Rovers’ youth players.
From July onwards, he was also the head coach of Solihull Moors academy and has management experience with Newport YMCA and takes with him his assistant manager Tony Barrett to Windmill Lane.
Commenting on his appointment, he said: “Firstly I would like to thank everyone at Ely Rangers for the past three years and wish them all the best for the future! I’m now looking forward to the step up and new challenges that brings with Llantwit Major AFC.
“After a conversation and interview with the committee, I knew this was something I couldn’t turn down, the chance to manage the champions of the Cyrmu South. We know it is going to be a rebuild and a new era for the club and I’m excited by this and can’t wait to get going.”
This is the highest level that he will have coached at and takes charge of a title-winning team that is beginning to be taken apart.
The league’s top scorer Tom Walters, who scored 24 league goals last season, and two-time winner Cullen Kinsella made the move to Old Road a fortnight ago and now they are being joined by four more of their teammates.
In a quadruple swoop from the Vale of Glamorgan club, Ferry have snapped up Connor Goldsworthy, Dafydd Owen, Kris Evans, and Nathan Jones.
Goldsworthy has been nominated for the Cymru South’s Young Player of the Year award after getting six goals and five assists in 27 appearances. The 24-year-old most recently played at the ground of his new club having represented the Cymru South in the Regions Cup.
As did Evans, Jones, and Owen, who will be aware of their newer surroundings. Evan made 22 appearances for the Major this season, getting three goals and an assist.
For Jones, the 28-year-old played 27 games and got two assists in the 2159 minutes of league action that he had.
Owen meanwhile was ever-present and despite not getting a goal or an assist, was a key figure in their title-winning team.
As well as the four players that have left for Briton Ferry, it has also been announced that winger Josh Jones is departing for an ‘exciting opportunity’ in the Cymru Premier.
