Former Coventry City, Huddersfield Town, and Wrexham midfielder appointed Flint boss

Flint Town United have appointed former Wrexham midfielder Lee Fowler as their new first-team manager.

Fowler has been appointed a day after Neil Gibson and the Silkmen chose to part ways with the Flintshire club moving quickly.

The 39-year-old has been in management since 2018, managing three clubs, as well as two spells as an assistant.

He has been out of work for eight months after leaving his post at English non-league outfit Radcliffe Borough but rejected several opportunities before taking up the role at the Essity Stadium.

“I want to make it clear how good a job Neil and Lee did, and I want to continue where they left off,” Fowler said after being unveiled.

“Patience is key, we won’t rush it. We won’t panic and have to overpay for players, because we are vulnerable in the playing depth of the team.

“I’m going to play my own way which will be an attacking brand of football.”

Chairman Darryll Williams added: “Lee is well versed in all aspects of the game and I’m sure he will prove to be a big asset to the club. Of course, he will need to hit the ground running and his main priority will be to strengthen the squad following our recent departures, and I welcome the chance to work with him in achieving our goals.”

As well as turning out for the Dragons, he also played for The New Saints, Cefn Druids, and Holywell Town in Wales.

Fowler was also contracted to Coventry City, Huddersfield Town, Newport County, Fleetwood Town, and Doncaster Rovers, playing in the Football League for many.

In management, he worked as an assistant to Nicky Eaton at Nuneaton Borough and had a short stint as manager before he departed. He was also the Ilkeston Town boss and led them to the Midland Premier Division title back in 2019.

After delivering them success, however, he was later made assistant manager of Bradford Park Avenue, working alongside Marcus Law but departed.

At Radcliffe, he was appointed in February 2020 but two curtailed seasons owing to the COVID-19 pandemic meant he could not see through a full campaign.

Fowler for the foreseeable future will work with the coaching staff that he has such as academy director Danny Bell.
