Newtown have announced the sale of winger Lifumpa Mwandwe to Canadian Premier League side Halifax Wanderers.
The Robins have managed to coup a fee for the player who has agreed to a two-year deal with the Canadian outfit.
As part of the agreement, the 21-year-old will play his last game for the club in their Europa Conference League qualifier with HB Torshavn tomorrow.
“I’m very excited to join the club,” Mwandwe said to the Halifax official club website after the transfer was announced.
“I saw a video with what the club’s all about, and I was immediately drawn to what I saw. The thing that excites me most about this new challenge is being able to showcase my ability in a different country and especially in front of the Wanderers fans.”
Mwandwe has had two spells at Latham Park, first as a loan player after coming through the ranks of Shrewsbury Town before joining permanently after his release.
In the season just past, Mwandwe registered seven goals and six assists and was nominated for the Young Player of the Year award in the Cymru Premier, losing out to Mael Davies.
Mwandwe achieved the most successful dribbles and was statistically the most fouled player in the 2021/22 campaign.
His contribution to Newtown on a whole sees him depart with 15 goals and 13 assists with a goal in the Play-Off Final against Caernarfon Town one of his crowning moments.
“We’re delighted to secure the services of Fumpa, who fits the profile we prioritized on the left side of our attack going into this international transfer window,” Wanderers sporting director Matt Fegan said.
“He is an exciting young winger who is blessed with pace and creativity, excellent in tight spaces, and shows a consistent ability to beat his opponent.
These are all attributes we believe will excite our fans and make him an excellent addition to the squad. At just 21, he has his best years ahead of him, and his versatility means he can also play through the middle up front.”
