Aberystwyth Town have signed goalkeeper Lewis Webb on loan from EFL Championship outfit Swansea City.
The 20-year-old will ply his trade in the Cymru Premier for six months, likely taking him up to the end of Phase One.
The Black and Greens had been on the search for a new goalkeeper following the departures of both Alex Pennock and Gregor Zabret.
Webb, who was at Cardiff City and Newport County, before a stint at Merthyr Town, is a two-time Wales Under-21 international.
He already has experience in top-flight football having played for Shelbourne of the League of Ireland.
Commenting on his move to Park Avenue, he said: “I’m really excited to meet the boys, the staff, and fans at Park Avenue and getting going with the season. I want to make the most of the opportunity for game time and continue my development.
“The season is just around the corner so I’m eager to hit the ground running and help Aberystwyth make a good start under Taff!”
As well as recently becoming the first-choice Wales U21 keeper, he also made six starts at the Under-18s level before making the step up to Paul Bodin’s side.
Aber had signed Leigh Jenkins from Cymru North outfit Penrhyncoch but he will now contend with Webb for the battle to be first choice keeper.
It was revealed that first-team manager Anthony Williams sought the advice of his former Blackburn Rovers teammate Damien Duff on Webb.
Williams said after his latest addition: “Lewis is an exceptional goalkeeper who has trained with the First-Team for over two years now, which is evidence of his quality and the high regard in which he is held at Swansea City.
“I spoke with Damien Duff – a teammate of mine at Blackburn over many years – who had nothing but praise for him after his spell at Shelbourne last season.
“I understand first-hand there are varying journeys goalkeepers take in their careers – I hope that we can be an influential step in Lewis’ journey to achieving his full potential.”
