The first clear chance of the game fell to Port when Lewis Sirrell miskicked a clearance that then fell to Alex Boss who cut inside and hit a curling shot wide.

A few half chances fell to the Bay in the opening 15 mainly through James Kirby.

The Bay’s best chance came just after the 15-minute mark when Kirby received a ball on the left side of the box, he nodded the ball back across to Sirrell who whacked a shot over the bar from close range.

With the Seagulls on top, they then had a goal disallowed when Matty Hill converted with a header at the back post from Alex Downes deep cross, he was called offside.

The best chance of the first 45 fell to the main man Kirby who was played in by a Cai Owen header following a poor goal kick, he shaped to shoot with his right and hit a low shot that was well saved by the Port keeper.

The visitors best chance came at the end of the half when the pacey Boss was made to chase a ball down the right, he cut the ball back to his strike partner Meilir Williams who’s shot from the edge of the box was well blocked by a Bay body.

With the game goalless at half time it was all to play for in the second 45. Port had the first half chance when a long ball found Meilir Williams who was 1v1 with Sirrell, with Boss dashing forward in support there was a great chance to slip him through, but Williams opted to turn back, and the chance was gone.

Free kick specialist McCready created an opportunity for his side ten minutes into the half winning a free kick on the right-hand side and whipping a great ball to Kirby at the back post who’s volley went wide.

Port striker Williams had another opportunity not long after yet again with another ball in behind the Bay defence, this time he made is way into the box but was forced out wider than he would have liked and hit a right footed shot past the post.

There was a rare adventure for centre back Sirrell 20 minutes into the second half as he carried the ball from his usual space all the way into the Port box, hitting a shot and forcing a save from the keeper. The resulting corner was hit long and landed to Hill who cut inside on his left foot and hit a shot narrowly wide of the right-hand post.

The deadlock was broken not long after when the ball was switched from left to right finding Alex Downes in space, he played a slick one two with Hill then drove into the box and shooting confidently to find the back of the net with a bottom corner finish.

Dylan Allshorn who came on as a sub in the second half looked lively as ever, he found Hill with a great pass played over the Port defence leaving Hill with just the keeper to beat, he hit a right footed shot, but the goalie made himself big and saved.

Bay put some daylight between themselves and Port with ten minutes to go when a corner found the head of Downes who headed powerfully back to where the ball came from, a defender cleared the ball, but the referee and assistant were confident it had crossed the line and the goal was given.
