Brighton & Hove Albion striker wants to use aggression differently for Wales

Wales striker Kayleigh Green says she will use her aggression differently, as she and her teammates prepare to take on Greece and Slovenia.

During this qualifying campaign, Green has been sent off on two occasions, once away to Slovenia and once away to France.

When asked if Gemma Grainger had spoken to her about altering the game, Green said no but did say she can adapt her game slightly.

‘With me, everyone who’s played with me or seen me play, knows that’s part of my game’

‘I’m aggressive but there’s elements that I can’t lose concentration and do some things that I’ve done in previous games’

‘I’ve gone back and reviewed those game and my red cards’

‘Going into the next games I’ll be smarter about it and how I use my aggression’

An older member of the Wales squad, Green has been a part of many camps. However, she says the atmosphere surrounding this camp is different to ones before.

‘It feels like just a normal campaign. The vibes around camp are quite relaxing’

‘This is probably one of the first campaigns that I’ve stepped into at the end of a campaign, and it’s been a relaxing environment’

‘Take your hat off to Gemma for creating that environment. In previous campaigns we’ve come to the end, and you can feel the nerves from people’

‘You know what we need to do, and we haven’t quite done it’

‘That will be in the back of people’s minds probably, but at the moment I feel the camp is positive’

This campaign has also seen Grainger bleed in many young players, especially in attack. Brighton forward Green has enjoyed playing alongside the likes of Carrie Jones, Ceri Holland and Hannah Cain.

‘The young players that have come in have so much energy and especially for a senior player like myself they keep me on my toes’

‘There’s no room for complacency because there’s great players that we have witnessed on that pitch’

‘Carrie Jones stepped on against France, one of the biggest teams in the world, and she’s gone out there and competed with them’

While full focus will be on the game against Greece on Friday night, no doubt the minds of many Welsh fans will be on the game against Slovenia on Tuesday.

So far tickets have surpassed the 9000 mark, and Green cannot wait to see all the fans after the game, whether they’ve seen a women’s game before or not.

‘In previous home games we’ve had new fans turned up and they’ve absolutely loved it.

What we do as a team, we always recognise what our fans give us, and we always make time for the fans, autographs, photos’

‘I think in previous games that’s been recognised and the fans have loved it. As a group of players, we will always have time for our fans’

Wales take on Greece away on Friday night before taking on Slovenia at the Cardiff City Stadium on Tuesday September 6th.
