Five-star Barry ease past sorry Goytre United

Barry Town United turned on the style as they thrashed Goytre United 5-0 at Jenner Park, which included a stellar performance from Kayne McLaggon.

McLaggon scored a hat-trick, which took his goals tally up to 11 goals in seven matches for the Vale of Glamorgan club.

Gavin Chesterfield’s side are now fifth in the Cymru South league table, level on points with Carmarthen and Briton Ferry above them. Goytre sit second from bottom above Swansea University.

The first goal came after 20 minutes, as Josh Graham broke through the Goytre defence and cut the ball back to make it an easy tap-in for captain McLaggon.

Jordan Cotterill scored the second after picking the ball up outside the box and calmly placing the ball in the corner. Luke Cooper then added to the score line on his 200th start for Barry, as his header from a corner in the 38th minute saw the first half finish 3-0.

McLaggon’s second goal of the afternoon came in the 67th minute, following excellent work from Jordan Cotterill to latch on to a long ball over the top and drive into the box, before squaring to McLaggon. The Barry skipper was calm enough to take it around the oncoming keeper and slot it in to make it 4-0.

The fifth and final goal came in the form of a penalty after referee Kim Fisher pointed to the spot following a handball in the box. McLaggon stepped up and put it away into the bottom left corner, completing his hattrick.
