Cardiff City distanced themselves from Cardiff Met in the Adran Premier title race with a resounding 5-0 win at Cyncoed Campus.

In what was a rain-soaked spectacle, it was the Bluebirds who thundered their way to victory in style. Goals from Siobhan Walsh, Danielle Broadhurst, Rhianne Oakley, Phoebie Poole and Danielle Green sealed a great win away from home.

The win keeps the Bluebirds top, while the Archers remain in third place, but are now twelve points adrift of the leaders.

As many would suspect, City started the game off strong and had their first chance six minutes in.

A poor clearance from Amelia Forkings went straight to Phoebie Poole, but she couldn’t control her initial effort and the ball fizzled past the post.

The hail then made its presence felt and the game was briefly stopped, but after the interruption, the Bluebirds stepped up a gear.

A City corner turned into a game of pinball in the Met area, before Zoe Atkins nodded down to Siobhan Walsh, who volleyed her effort into the net to put City ahead.

A minute later City doubled their lead. Rhianne Oakley cut the ball back to Ffion Price, and her cross found Danielle Broadhurst at the back post, and she passed it past Forkings.

Anyone of a Met persuasion was shocked by what had just happened, and they didn’t create much in the first half to convince anyone that they would get back into it.

Oakley hit the post a minute from half time, but City went into the dressing room well on top.

The Bluebirds stepped up their possession game at the start of the second half and found their third ten minutes into it.

City worked the ball round the back before feeding the ball down the wing to Broadhurst. She turned provider this time, as her cross found Oakley, who prodded her effort past Forkings.

It was really champagne football from City, and they scored a classy fourth. Hollie Smith threaded a delightful ball into Poole, who curled it round the keeper to the delight the away dugout.

It was clear to see City were enjoying their football, and they had a fifth quarter of an hour from time. Lily Billingham played in Danielle Green, whose powerful low driven shot sailed past Forkings.

In reality, City could have scored more than five, but ultimately, they will be delighted with the result tonight.

Met will next face TNS away on Sunday, while City will have the weekend off before facing off against Swansea at the Liberty Stadium on December 4th.

Player of the Match: Siobhan Walsh

Danielle Broadhurst deserves a mention for a great display, but Walsh was superb. While she scored and a 5-0 win would indicate it was an attacking masterclass from City, but the defense was fantastic. It’s her marshalling of the back three and commands to her teammates that made City so comfortable from a defensive perspective tonight. A captain’s performance.
