Barry Town United 1-0 Carmarthen Town: As it happened

Barry Town United take on Carmarthen Town in a Cymru South clash down at Jenner Park on Saturday.

As we approach the halfway stage of the league, both these sides will have aspirations of reaching Wales’ top table, and a win for either will boost that cause no end.

There is no doubt that Barry are the in-form side in the league. Their last league defeat came away to Briton Ferry in August. Since that defeat, Barry have won every game, a run of results that sees them top of the table and four points clear of second place. When you add league top scorer Kayne McLaggon into the mix, who has scored 18 goals this season, then this is a difficult team to stop. Last week they defeated Cambrian and Clydach 2-1 away from home. Goals from Liam Warman and Jordan Cotterill did the damage.

Their opponents, Carmarthen, come into this game in fourth place, but will certainly cause problems for the leaders. They’ve scored 34 goals so far this season, a league-high, and with Liam Thomas and Noah Daley combining for 21 of those goals, an upset could be on the cards. In terms of form, Old Gold come into this one on the back of a 4-2 defeat away to Briton Ferry. A defeat at Jenner Park will certainly dent Carmarthen’s hopes of promotion.

These two met at the end of August at Richmond Park, with Barry coming out on top. Warman’s fourth-minute goal was enough to separate the sides. It promises to be a cracker at Jenner Park on Saturday afternoon.
