Swansea City Ladies’ manager, Ceri Phillips spoke proudly of his title chasing side following a 6-0 win over Barry Town in the Adran Premier.
Five second half goals saw the Swans close the gap to five points with Cardiff City ahead of their meeting next week.
‘’We’re delighted, I felt it was a really professional performance.’’ Phillips began.
‘’It was a tough first half Barry made it tough for us but in the second half our quality came through and made me proud the way everyone played.
‘’The main thing was we were creating chances and the girls were getting into the right positions and the build up to those chances [we missed] were positives and to get six goals I think we have got to be happy with that and to get a clean sheet was a really good defensive performance.’’
In a dramatic ending, Swansea scored three goals in the final six minutes, punishing Barry Town for their earlier missed penalty.
On route to their devastating scoreline, Stacey John-Davis scored her sixth goal in seven league games this season, completing a brace the week before the South Wales derby.
‘’I think we were doing all the right things in the first half. Obviously we got let off with the penalty but I think that was just a wake up call for us to go up another gear and keep doing what we were doing but with a bit more quality and intensity.
Looking forward to the derby next week, he commented: ‘’Obviously it would be nicer not to be five points but at the same time, we now feel like the pressure is off us and we can just take every game by game and just try pick up points and hope they drop points along the way because it’s a long season and at the moment it’s theirs to lose.
‘’I think the last two games, the girls have performed really well so we’re confident going into Sunday’s game now, we’re hoping for a good turn out and hopefully plenty come to attend and should be a great spectacle between the best two teams in the country.’’
