Cardiff City FA Cup hero quits managers job – less than 24 hours after defeat

Cambrian & Clydach Vale and first-team manager Scott Young have mutually agreed to part ways.

His last act was to oversee a 3-2 home defeat to Swansea University on Tuesday, December 6. The loss to the Students left the Sky Blues seventh in the Cymru South, 15 points behind league leaders Barry Town United and nine points above the relegation zone.

A club statement read: “The club today has reluctantly accepted the resignation of manager Scott Young along with his assistant Lawrence Badman and goalkeeper coach Duncan Roberts.

“Scott Young told the club it was a difficult decision to come to but the management group felt the time had come for a fresh approach.

“He also thanked the board for their full backing during his time as manager and wished the club and their players all the very best for the rest of the season and beyond.

“The club would like to thank Scott, Lawrence, and Duncan for all their efforts whilst with the club and wish them all the very best for the future.”

The 46-year-old was appointed in February 2021, replacing Lee Kendall, who had been in charge for a brief stint. Young did not get to manage in the 2020/21 campaign as a result of no football beyond the Cymru Premier because of COVID-19.

In his first season, Cambrian finished fourth, 23 points off Llantwit Major and 18 behind Pontypridd United, who were promoted.

Their next match is against Pontardawe Town at Parc Ynysderw on Saturday, December 10. The next manager faces the difficult task to build up form with their next six matches all scheduled away from home. Young’s replacement will not take charge of a home match until January 27, against Briton Ferry Llansawel.
