Carys Bufton snatched a last-minute winner at Park Avenue on Sunday afternoon to give Pontypridd United all three points against Aberystwyth Town in the opening game of Phase Two in the Adran Premier.
The Seasiders took the lead against the Dragons inside the first 15 minutes of the game. Amy Jenkins was taken down by Ponty goalkeeper Maise Jones to give Aber a penalty, which Tania Wylde dispatched to give the home side the advantage.
Pontypridd responded well and finally found an equaliser through their top scorer Olivia Francis. The 17-year-old placed a shot into the bottom corner after a brilliant cross from the left by Bufton, to bring the scoring level.
Both sides made changes in a bid to take the lead in the second half. However, it would be the visitors who would take all three points in the closing stages despite Aber Town having most of the possession. Bufton got on the end of a brilliant cross by Evie Hughes on the right side, to give Ponty a vital victory against an Aber side who will feel unfortunate not to have taken something from the game.
It is a repeat of the last clash between the two sides, when Aber took the lead at the USW Sport Park, only for Pontypridd to turn the game around in another 2-1 victory for the South Wales side.
The result means Pontypridd United go eight points clear of Aberystwyth Town in the bottom half of Phase Two, with Aber remaining two points above the relegation zone.
This comes after Barry Town United fell to a 1-0 home defeat at the hands of bottom side Abergavenny, meaning both sides remain in the relegation zone in the Adran Premier.
