In a record-breaking day for Women’s football in Wales, Wrexham topped off their title-winning campaign with a win against runners-up Connah’s Quay Nomads.
It was a great start to the game for Connah’s Quay, who after winning a corner early on hit the bar through skipper Kirstie Kural. The midfielder volleyed the ball towards the goal before hitting the woodwork within five minutes of the game.
Just moments later, however, Wrexham took the lead in front of the record crowd. A free-kick from miles out on the left was taken by TJ Dickens, who fired a shot straight over in the Connah’s Quay net to give the Red Dragons the lead at the Racecourse.
Ella Harvey equalised for the visitors just moments later. A mistake by Delyth Morgan meant Harvey was able to turn away in the box and fire into an empty net, to make the score 1-1 after just ten minutes in North Wales.
The game looked to be heading for a draw until seven minutes from time, when Rosie Hughes, who had been brilliant throughout the entire game, got round Murphy in the Connah’s Quay net, to tap home in front of the Wrexham fans. It was brilliant by Lily Whitefoot who dispossessed the Nomads near the halfway line to start the counter-attack.
The Champions would see the game out for the win, which was followed by brilliant celebrations for Wrexham, who will be a great addition to the Adran Premier next season.
