Ex-Swansea City, Reading, and Watford midfielder considering retirement 

Briton Ferry Llansawel star Laura-may Walkley says she will contemplate her future as she considers retirement from football. 

The 31-year-old suffered play-off heartache as the Reds lost 1-0 to Wrexham in the Adran Leagues play-off final. Walkley played the entirety of the match and had an appeal for a penalty turned down.

Walkley had a productive campaign for Rhys James’ side who won the Adran South by nine points. She got had 19 assists and 10 goals in 20 matches across all competitions with 15 assists and five goals coming in the league. 

Posting on Twitter, Walkley said: “So my season has come to an end ..that one is gonna hurt for a while … played in cup finals throughout my time playing and won and not deserved it and played in finals and deserved it and not won … that is football

“But there’s somethings yesterday nobody deserves.. and I think I can’t accept it anymore ..it’s just not good enough.. time to walk into the sun and ponder my future and playing time ..they say all good things come to an end .. time for a long think.”

Walkley began her career at Swansea City and later joined Cardiff Met, before a spell with Bristol Academy. She had another spell at Cyncoed Campus but returned to the English game where she turned out for Reading, winning the FA Women’s Championship in 2015. She earned several caps for the Welsh national team with her last cap against Hungary coming in 2016. Walkley featured alongside the likes of Sophie Ingle, Kayleigh Green, Hayley Ladd, Jess Fishlock and Helen Ward. 

Walkley later played for London Bees and Watford Ladies, before returning to Wales. In recent seasons, she played for Port Talbot and later joined Cardiff Met, where she was included in the 2021/22 Team of the Season

Briton Ferry face Adran Premier champions Cardiff City in the final of the FAW Women’s Cup at Merthyr Town on Sunday (April 23) with Walkley’s status unknown.
