Former Fulham man inspires league title with impressive hat-trick

Cardiff Corries have been crowned winners of the South Wales Alliance League Premier Division.

The Corries won 3-0 against Ely Rangers in their final fixture and title rivals Canton Liberal lost 3-2 to Porthcawl Town Athletic which meant that they couldn’t be caught. Former Fulham youth defender Aron Davies scored a second-half hat-trick to inspire his side to victory. It is their second promotion in three seasons after being in the fifth tier in 2020.

In their 28 matches, they won 22 of them and drew four with just two defeats which came against Canton Liberal and Aber Valley. They scored 101 goals and conceded just 35 with Davies leading the way with 28 goals in 25 matches with 13 assists too. Curtis Scotto chipped in with 19 goals whilst Chris Worsley led with 21 assists and 12 goals.

Corries must now await the outcome of their Tier Three Licence application to see if they can take their place in the Ardal South West. The side from the Radyr area of Cardiff have installed a new stand at their Riverside Ground home but played their last few matches at Llanrumney University.

A decision is expected on the first week of May, but there will be an appeals process for any teams that fail in the first instance. The Corries’ geographical position will place them in the South West division, but the make-up of the league will not be confirmed until late June.

Corries haven’t yet played in the Ardal Leagues but were once proud members of the Welsh Football League, winning it in 1985. It is the first time since 2016 that they will play outside of the South Wales Alliance League.
