Cardiff Dracs appoint Welsh League winning boss as new manager

Cardiff Dracs have unveiled Welsh Football League-winning boss Nana Baah as their new first-team manager.

Baah is replacing Marc Cahill who had his departure announced from Llydstep Park last week. The Dracs advertised the post, and the Welsh League-winning manager was the chosen candidate.

He arrives at the North Cardiff club, having already managed STM Sports and Caerau Ely in the city, as well as nearby Taffs Well. It was at Caerau that he won an unlikely Welsh League title, beating off the likes of Haverfordwest County and Cardiff Met to win South Wales football’s top prize. At STM Sports, he reached the Nathaniel MG Cup final, losing to eventual Cymru Premier winners Connah’s Quay.

The 41-year-old announced on Tuesday night that he would be standing down from his post-Treharris Athletic Western along with his assistant Paul Smith, and now his move has shortly been revealed.

“It’s with great sadness that I’ve decided to step down as manager of Treharris Athletic,” he said in a social media post. This has been a very difficult decision to make as I’ve come to love the club, the town, and especially the people within the club.

“It is never easy to leave a club you genuinely have a lot of love for but sometimes change is good for everyone. I wish the club the very best of luck for the future.”

In his two seasons as Treharris, he led the club to two consecutive 10th-placed finishes, and in 2021/22 would have secured the seventh spot had the club not been deducted 12 points. He will not face his former club in a league match however as they have been moved to the Ardal South East.

Cardiff Draconians retained their place in the Ardal South West after a 3-0 win over relegation rivals Cwmamman United and will come up against some new opponents as well as familiar faces.

Canton Liberal and Cardiff Corinthians have been promoted from the South Wales Alliance League, whilst Morriston Town and South Gower have come up from the West Wales Premier League.

Ynyshir Albions and Swansea University were both relegated from the Cymru South whilst Trefelin BGC were given a reprieve.
