Lewis Clutton sends classy Penybont farewell message after USA move

Lewis Clutton has sent a farewell message to Penybont after he departed the club for an opportunity in the USA.

The 21-year-old is leaving the SDM Glass Stadium after nearly years at the club, after securing a scholarship in the States with Loyola Marymount University Lions. Clutton played in Penybont’s home Europa Conference League against FC Santa Coloma but was an unused substitute in the away leg.

He joined the club in the summer of August 2020 after being released by Bristol Rovers and went on to become an important player under Rhys Griffiths. Clutton made 66 appearances in total for the club, scoring six goals and getting three assists.

“Where do I even start,” began Clutton in a post on Twitter.

“Just want to thank every single person at the club for the past 3 seasons in helping me get back to enjoying my football again after coming out of being full-time. I’ve had some of the best experiences of my life at the club.

“I’m honestly gutted to be leaving but it’s an opportunity which I’ve always wanted to do in my short footballing career. I’ll be watching from afar and you have my best wishes for the future. Up the Bont.”

Clutton’s departure has been softened by the arrivals of Henry Jones and Gabriel Kircough earlier this summer. The pair already made their debuts against Santa Coloma, nevertheless though Rhys Griffiths is saddened to him go, though didn’t shut the door on him returning once his studies in the States are done.

“Lewis is a player with huge potential and one we’re sorry to lose,” said first-team manager Rhys Griffiths. That said he’s very popular in the changing room and around the club, I wish him the best and hope he enjoys the experience before coming back in the future.”
