Haverfordwest County 0-0 Pontypridd United RECAP

Haverfordwest County and Pontypridd United meet at the Ogi Bridge Meadow on the opening day of the Cymru Premier 2023/24 season.

The Bluebirds have been involved in Europa Conference League action over the last month, overcoming Shkendija but losing to B36 Torshavn. Tony Pennock’s side were the only Welsh team to win a tie this summer.

As a result of their European run, they had to play their development team against Cardiff City in the Nathaniel MG Cup last Sunday and lost 4-0. The side did feature summer arrival Ifan Knott, as well as Rio Dyer, Harri John, and Iori Humphreys too.

Pontypridd United meanwhile were victorious as they beat Llanelli Town 4-1, despite going behind to a goal from former Dragons striker Sam Johnson. Ben Williams-Margetson, Owain Jones, Jordan Knott and Ben Ahmun were all on target inside 48 minutes for Andrew Stokes’ men.

It’s evenly poised between the two sides with three-wins apiece and one draw in the four meetings they’ve had in the Cymru Premier and the three in the Welsh Cup. The last time the two sides met it was a 2-0 win for the side from West Wales with Jordan Davies and Daniel Hawkins on target in April. Pontypridd’s wins against Haverfordwest last year both came at the USW Sport Park, and their only loss against Haverfordwest was that defeat only a few months ago.
