Taffs Well 0-3 Briton Ferry Llansawel: Reds in control against Wellmen

Briton Ferry took the three points at Rhiw Dda’r as they beat Taffs Well 3-0 in the JD Cymru South.

Luke Bowen scored the only goal of the first half as Briton Ferry controlled much of the half.  Luke Bowen had two chances before his goal and Tom Walters did have the ball in the net, but he was ruled offside.  Ellis Sage had Taffs best chance forcing a save from Rhys Wilson. 

The second half saw The Wellmen come out better and Liam Hutchinson hit the post before Charlie Lewis’ effort was saved.  Ferry came back into the game and Tom Walters added two goals for Briton Ferry’s third win of the season. 

The win sees Briton Ferry continue to lead the JD Cymru South with a 100% record.  Taffs Well slip down to 12th


Briton Ferry pressed forward from the start forcing Taffs Well back.  Luke Bowen had the game’s first chance sending a shot wide from just outside the box.

Bowen who was lively all match soon had another chance as he forced a save from Taffs keeper Edward King.  The Wellmen failed to clear Jack Hurley’s corner and the ball fell to Bowen but King saved his close-range effort.

The Ferry striker then went close again flicking a header just over the bar from a Ferry corner. 

Taffs fought back into the game and had a good chance to take the lead.  Ellis Sage got past Kris Evans and fired a low shot that needed a good save from Rhys Wilson. 

Tom Walters put the ball in the net after a good through ball, but the flag was up as Walters was offside.

The pressure from the visitors told in the 36th minute as Bowen put them ahead.  Joseph Jones with a high ball across the six-yard box allowing Bowen to head home from close range. 

Gammond then had the chance to make it two, but his close-range header was saved by King.

The Wellmen made the better start after the break and had two quick-fire chances to level the game.  Liam Hutchinson’s powerful effort blasted off the post and then Charlie Lewis hit the rebound at goal.  Rhys Wilson getting down quickly with a strong head to keep the ball out.

The host’s kept on trying to get forward to level the scores but was hit by a quick Ferry attack.  A ball that went behind the defence found the run of Tom Walters.  Walters quickly hit a low powerful shot that went flying past King. 

Ferry started to wrestle back control after the second goal and Walters sent Jasper Payne through but his low effort was saved by the legs of King.

The pair then switched roles as Payne turned provider, putting the ball into the path of Walters who turned in from close range.
