Abergavenny Town boss becomes Cymru South’s first managerial departure

Nicky Morgan has tendered his resignation as first-team manager of Abergavenny Town.

Morgan’s last act was overseeing Abergavenny’s 2-1 defeat to Afan Lido on Friday night. The Pennies are second from bottom in the Cymru South after three games and have tasted defeat in all four competitive matches this season. Dillian Campbell’s goal against the Lido was the first and only goal Abergavenny had scored this season.

Morgan was dealt a blow in pre-season when his assistant manager Danny Elliott left to become manager of Gwent Premier Division club Cwmbran Town. Elliott was replaced by Jamie Summers, and former Women’s manager Josh Anderson had also been assisting.

“My time at Abergavenny Town has come to an end,” he said in a post on his own personal Twitter account.

“I will leave the club with immediate effect. Keeping this amazing club in the Cymru South last season was a great personal achievement and I am very proud of being part of such a great group of players and staff.

“I wish the club all the very best for the remainder of the Cymru South campaign and I am sure they will be fine as there are too many great people at the club for it not to be a success. I would also like to thank all my players over the last 12 months for making my time at Abergavenny very special.

“Finally, I would also like to thank the chairman and the committee for their full support over the last year, something I will never forget.

Abergavenny Town begin life without Nicky Morgan this Friday, August 18, when they host Baglan Dragons at Pen-y-Pound Stadium.
