Swansea City and Cardiff City clash at the Swansea.com Stadium for a South Wales Derby in the Nathaniel MG Cup.

The two sides that received an invitation from the FAW’s National Game Board meet for a place in the quarter-finals.

Swansea have beaten Carmarthen Town and Caerau Ely respectively to reach this stage whilst Cardiff beat Cambrian & Clydach Vale, as well as Cymru Premier side Haverfordwest County. 

Wales under-17 international Iwan Morgan scored two goals for the young Swans but joined Premier League outfit Brentford on deadline day.

Ben Lloyd and Glory Nzingo both netted in the win over the Old Gold meanwhile Mitchel Bates and Kyrell Wilson scored against Ely.

As for the Bluebirds, Cian Ashford scored all four goals in their win against Haverfordwest, and netted against Cambrian too, whilst also forcing Kyle Jones to score an own goal. 

Both teams are Category Three academies in England, and as a result play in the Professional Development League. Swansea – managed by Anthony Wright – are currently third meanwhile Darren Purse’s Cardiff are currently bottom.

Cardiff lost 6-2 to Sheffield United in their last match last Tuesday whilst Swansea won 3-2 against Coventry City.

Swansea City v Cardiff City kicks off at 7.30 pm.

Team news

Both Cardiff City and Swansea City’s senior teams are in action tonight so there is unlikely to be any first-team players featuring. 

The Swans are away at QPR meanwhile the Bluebirds face Coventry City at the Cardiff City Stadium in the EFL Championship.
