Haverfordwest County have signed Aidan MacNamara on a free transfer following his summer departure from Cardiff City.

The 19-year-old left the EFL Championship club this summer and has now penned terms with the Bluebirds.

His move to the West Wales is subject to them receiving clearance from the Football Association of Wales.

MacNamara is capable of playing in defence and in midfield, offering versatility. He could make his debut in Haverfordwest’s next fixture against Cardiff Met should his clearance come through in time.

Commenting on the signing, first-team manager Tony Pennock said: “I saw Aidan player a number of times last season for Cardiff, he can play in a number of positions.

“With the number of defenders and utility players we’ve got out injured at the moment, I think it was a position we needed to fill.

“Aidan has been training with us for a couple of weeks, and I’ve spoken to a number of people about him and they’ve all given good reports, so we look forward to getting his clearance through as quick as possible and getting him in the squad.”

MacNamara is a Wales under-17 international and appeared against the Netherlands in 2019, facing off against RB Leipzig’s on-loan PSG star Xavi Simons.

He was an international teammate of Huddersfield Town’s Pat Jones, Newport County defender Matt Baker, and Bristol City midfielder Omar Taylor-Clarke. MacNamara also featured in the same squad as Cian Williams, who now plays for Cardiff Met.
