Cardiff City manager Erol Bulut has issued bad news on the availability of Wales captain Aaron Ramsey.
A knee injury sustained in training is set to keep Ramsey out for at least two months. This means he is set to miss the remaining qualifying games against Croatia next Sunday as well as the doubleheader against Armenia and Turkey in November.
“We were talking about his injury, we were waiting to see how many weeks he will be out,” said Bluebirds boss Erol Bulut to WalesOnline.
“He will not have surgery, but he will be out for 8-10 weeks. If he has surgery, it will add 12 weeks.”
The news comes as a surprise after Wales manager Rob Page appeared positive on the possibility of Ramsey’s availability for the November fixtures.
Speaking in the squad selection press conference on Wednesday Page said: “We’re confident that we can get him back for November’s camp providing how well he heals. But we’ll have to wait and see.”
With Wales needing positive results from every fixture to give them hope of qualifying for the European Championships in Germany next summer it is sure to be a cause of concern for the International team and the Red Wall.
Tottenham Hotspur star Brennan Johnson is also ruled out of the upcoming qualifier against Croatia due to injury.
Page revealed that the injury isn’t serious and expects him to be available for the November fixtures.
Speaking on Wednesday he said “It’s not a serious one but the timing dictates it (his omission). If he’s not going to be right for Spurs, then it’s not fair for us to pick him and try and play him.”
Charlie Savage and Luke Harris meanwhile will return to the under-21’s squad after their potential involvement against Gibraltar next week.
