‘Buzzing’ – Pontypridd United star posts positive injury update after 24-month absence

Pontypridd United striker Luke Gullick looks on.

Pontypridd United striker Luke Gullick is closing in on a return to the pitch after posting an update

The 36-year-old has not played a competitive match since October 26, 2021, which is just shy of two years.

He ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament – for the second time in his career – and that kept him out for the remainder of the Dragons promotion-winning campaign, and their first season in the Cymru Premier.

“I know it’s only training but I’m absolutely buzzing to be back in full training this week,” said Gullick in a post on Twitter.

“Even happier tonight taking part in my first x11 v x11 in nearly 2 years. Another step closer.”

Gullick had scored 12 goals in 11 games in the 2021/22 Cymru South season and is one of their long-serving forwards.

It was reported in late August that Gullick had joined Ardal South East outfit Trethomas Bluebirds on a short-term deal to aid him in his recovery after a long spell out with his injury.

He is yet to make his competitive debut for the Bluebirds and will be registered to the third-tier outfit until at least January.

Pontypridd are in need of attacking reinforcements having only scored two goals in 10 games. Last season’s top scorer Ben Ahmun has been out since scoring the winner against Barry Town in early September.

Owain Jones and club captain Clayton Green have also been sidelined in recent weeks. Jones has not played since the end of August, whilst Green’s last match was against Cardiff Met on September 8.

Andrew Stokes’ men are in action against Haverfordwest County at the USW Sport Park on Saturday, October 7 at 5.15 pm. The Dragons are on a five-game losing streak in the league and have not won since beating Barry Town on September 2.
