Penybont and Newport City meet for a place in the next round of the Women's Cup.

Penybont take on Newport City at the SDM Glass Stadium on Sunday, in the first round of the Bute Energy Welsh Cup.

The draw has pitted together the top two teams from the third tier, and it’s bound to be an intriguing affair at lunchtime on Sunday.

For Penybont, they head into the clash top of the SWWGL Combined League, having won all three of their games so far. With an 8-0 win over Tonyrefail Welfare and a 3-0 win over Pontarddulais Town, Bont have a lot of confidence heading into the first-round fixture. In the qualifying round, they put on a show by defeating Coedffranc 14-0. The star of the show was Katie Richards, and she’s been in scintillating form so far. Having played four games so far in all competitions, she has scored a staggering 13 goals. Richards is one to watch for sure.

Newport City, they have played one game extra in the league compared to their opponents, and they’ve picked up nine points from a possible twelve. Like Penybont, City come into this having won their last two games: 4-2 over Pontypridd Ladies and 4-1 over Caerphilly Castle. In their qualifying game, they overcame Penydarren 4-1. Their danger will come through Gabby Willavise, who has six goals in her opening four league games.

These two met early on in the season, with Penybont recording a 3-1 win on home soil. Goals from Amber Thomas, Maddie Priday, and an own goal from Rachel Isaac was enough to seal the win. Will Newport City get revenge on Sunday? Or will Penybont continue their dominant start?
