Cymru South club unveil new-look management team as axed boss makes swift return

Andy Hill gives instructions on the touchline

Trefelin have announced their new first-team manager, and the coaching team that will assist him.

The Port Talbot-based club parted company with Michael Waters a week ago by mutual consent. He had been in the role from the end of last season, but let the club despite winning back-to-back games.

Trefelin – knocked out of the Welsh Cup by Ammanford last week – had Paul Wiseman in the dugout but his stint will be a short one after the club announced Waters’ successor.

Andy Hill has been unveiled as their new boss, and he makes a swift return to management. He was relieved of his duties of Briton Ferry Llansawel, and he will bring with him several members of staff from his spell at Old Road.

Karl Lewis, who had been in charge of Goytre United up to mid-September joins as first-team coach, meanwhile, Mark Napieralla is his assistant manager. Napieralla had been assisting with the Reds since Hill’s departure but left his post last week.

Both Hill and Lewis have tasted success in the second tier of Welsh football. The former lifted the league title with Llanelli Town in 2018, whilst Lewis led Llantwit Major to an unexpected title in 2022.

A statement from the club read: “These high-caliber appointments show the ambition of the club to become a mainstay in the JD Cymru South, with a mindset of continuous improvement.

“We welcome Andy and the team and cannot wait to get started working with them!”

At the time of Hill’s arrival, Trefelin are 12th, and five points above safety. His first game in charge will come against Taffs Well at Ynys Park on Saturday, October 21.

Meanwhile, it has not yet been announced by Briton Ferry, however, Anthony Wright was listed as the team manager on the Cymru Football against Goytre United. His name did not appear amongst the coaching staff in the 3-0 win against Aberfan in the Welsh Cup though. The 44-year-old is the academy manager at Ferry and is also the under-21’s head coach of Swansea City.
