Barry Town welcome Cardiff Met to Jenner Park, in the fifth round of matches in this season’s Adran Premier.
The season is now in full swing and we’re starting to get an indication of what each team is capable of, and this game on Sunday looks set to be a crucial matchup.
For Barry, they need something to boost morale around the squad. Having suffered three straight league defeats, their last Adran Prem game saw them lose once again, this time a 5-0 defeat away to TNS. Their misery was compounded further last week when they were knocked out of the Welsh Cup. Having managed to salvage a 3-3 draw in regular time, they lost 4-3 on penalties to Swansea University. They’ve only scored once in the league and have conceded 16, making them the leakiest defence in the topflight.
It’s been an interesting start to the season for Cardiff Met. There’ve been some good results, like the win over Swansea City, some slightly poorer results, like the defeat to Cardiff City, and some curious results, especially the 4-4 draw with TNS. Their last league outing saw them draw on home soil to Aberystwyth Town, the first time Aber have ever taken points away from Cyncoed. Like Barry, they were also dumped out of the cup last weekend, losing to Swansea. Regardless of the outcome in previous games, star striker Ingrid Ådland has been one of the form league players.
The last time these two met it was a one-sided game, with the Archers running out 8-1 winners. Former Met forward Emily Allen scored four goals that day. Will Met run ragged again? Or will Barry stop the rot?
