Wales predicted XI v Armenia: Spurs star set to return

Brennan Johnson in action for Wales

Wales take on Armenia tomorrow in a simply must-win EURO 2024 qualifier in Yerevan.

After a huge victory at home against Croatia in the last international break, Wales are now two victories away from qualifying for another major tournament.

The first fixture is away to Armenia, the team who beat Wales 4-2 at the Cardiff City Stadium back in June. Cymru will be looking to avenge the shock loss and go into the home game against Turkey on Tuesday night knowing a win will send them to Germany next summer.

With that in mind, here is a look at the potential starting 11 for tomorrow’s fixture.

GK – Danny Ward

Danny Ward has now cemented his place as Wales number one with Wayne Hennessey winding down towards the end of his career. He had a great game against Croatia and will need to be solid again for Wales.

RWB – Connor Roberts

He is an ever-present for Wales and always shows how much playing for Cymru means to him. Expect him to run through brick walls in an attempt to help Wales qualify for another major tournament.

CB – Joe Rodon

Joe Rodon has settled into life at his new club Leeds United and is playing more regular football at the club level, which will always be beneficial for Wales. He was solid along with the rest of the defence in the last international window.

CB – Chris Mepham

Chris Mepham returned to the starting side in the win against Croatia after suffering with injury, and despite the risk didn’t put a foot wrong and was part of a solid back line.

CB – Ben Davies (c)

The skipper for the game will be looking to lead Cymru to Germany. He was brilliant in Spurs’ weekend fixture despite the late loss, and Wales will need him at his defensive best to keep Armenia at bay.

LWB – Neco Williams

It’s been a difficult time at club level for Neco Williams, with him having limited game time at Nottingham Forest, and it appears he will be moving on in January. Despite that, he has always been reliable for Wales and always pulls out top performances when called upon.

CM – Ethan Ampadu

Ampadu has gained a great amount of international experience despite only being 23 years old. He was fantastic in the Croatia win, and will end this international window one cap away from his 50th for Wales if he plays in both fixtures as expected.

CM – Jordan James

It has been a sensational rise for the Birmingham youngster. He was immense in the Croatia victory, pulling off a phenomenal performance alongside Ampadu to win the midfield battle against former Balon D’or winner Luka Modric. There is a big future ahead for James in a Wales shirt that is for sure.

RW – Harry Wilson

The star player of the famous victory against Croatia. He picked up the two goals on the night, and the Red Wall will be hoping for another strong performance from the King of Corwen tomorrow.

LW – Brennan Johnson

The Spurs forward missed the last international window through injury, but is back and firing ready for the remaining two qualifiers. He scored in his side’s 2-1 defeat to Wolves on the weekend, so hopefully can maintain his goal-scoring form.

ST – Kieffer Moore

He has had a lack of game time at club level but is always a big part of Wales’ plans. He will need to be at his best for Wales to break down what is likely to be a stubborn Armenia defence. He will also be looking for revenge after being sent off the last time the two sides met.

Wales team news

Wales are still without Aaron Ramsey as he is sidelined with his long-term injury, but could possibly be involved in the next international window, which will hopefully see Wales preparing for the European Championships.

There are no further injury concerns within the squad, with everyone training on Wednesday morning before travelling to Yerevan.

Coventry City defender Jay DaSilva has received his first call-up to the senior side and could receive his first cap during the international window.
