Wales player ratings v Turkey as two 8/10’s and ‘harsh’ 5/10

Wales ended their European Championship Qualifying campaign with a frustrating 1-1 draw against Turkey at the Cardiff City Stadium.

The result means Wales will now have to qualify for next summer’s European Championships in Germany through a play-off, that will begin in March.

Here is a look at our player ratings from the disappointing night in South Wales.

Danny Ward (6)

It was a quiet night for the Cymru number one. He wasn’t really tested, but did flap at one corner that caused some pressure. He was beaten by a penalty that he couldn’t really do much about.

Connor Roberts (6)

He was solid defensively and made some good runs behind the Turkey defence, although the end product wasn’t quite there.

Tom Lockyer (7)

A rare start for the Luton Town defender. He was solid at the back and didn’t really put a foot wrong. He provided some good distribution from the back, with some good long range passing.

Joe Rodon (7)

A solid night defensively for the Leeds United man. He won every header and challenge he had to make at the back.

Ben Davies (5)

It wasn’t the best night from the skipper. It won’t go down as one of his best performances, but he was a leader and communicated well. He was penalised harshly for the penalty that led to the leveller.

Neco Williams (8)

A great performance from a player that has had limited game-time at club level. A great finish for the opening goal to give Cymru a strong start.

Ethan Ampadu (6)

A solid performance from the Leeds United man in midfield. He done the basics well and is really showing the experience he has gathered in his 49 Wales caps.

Jordan James (7)

Another good performance from the Birmingham City youngster. He is showing great maturity despite his age. He was solid going forward and defensively, winning the ball back multiple times to start breakaways.

Harry Wilson (8)

Another good performance from the King of Corwen. He created the opening goal with a great pass to find Neco Williams, and was very tidy in possession.

Nathan Broadhead (6)

A rare start for the in-form Ipswich Town forward. He was solid and a handful up top, linking up well and creating some half chances. Has certainly helped his chances to start the play-off fixture in March.

Brennan Johnson (6)

The Spurs star was a real threat in behind, and created some half chances but was unable to find the much-needed goal. He did have the ball in the net but was caught narrowly offside.

Subs

David Brooks (5)

It was a quiet performance from Brooks after coming off the bench.

Daniel James (5)

Not much of an impact from the Leeds United winger after coming off the bench.

Kieffer Moore (5)

Another substitute that didn’t have the required impact. Wales need to see him playing more regular time at club level to get the best out of him.
